Thumbs up Mozilla Firefox - you gotta try this lil guy

This is really a sweet little browser, considering it's a beta. It blocks popups and doesn't download software surruptitiously like regular Mozilla, but unlike it's dino counterpart, it's quite compatible with most sites and even restores custom bookmark icons. I can finally right click on bookmarks again. It's so nice to have some functionality back.

Been using it for a while. Best browser ever, IMHO.

Sorry ppl, gotta disagree. I tried it & it's just too basic considering the size of the download. To get more functionality you have to download extensions. Opera is only 3.5 Mb's with a built in email client, mouse gestures, password manager, is open source, built in chat client & much, much more. No extensions required.

Yep, Firefox is a brilliant browser. And with some of these tweaks you can customise it to your hearts content, as well as make it even faster:

This tweak is particularly worth while:

Well, that's part of what I like. It doesn't load a bunch of stuff I'm not going to use.

built in email client, I don't want it
mouse gestures, I don't want it
    password manager, Firefox has it
    is open source, Firefox is
built in chat client I don't want it

For those that do want those things -- simple extensions. Cool.

No probs. What I'm saying though is for half the download size, you get probably 4 times the features. Don't want chat? don't use it, I don't.

Opera is free providing you don't mind an ad in the toolbar. You can choose which one you want too. (google ads)

I am still trying the free Opera 7.23 version and liking it. Go here and get this free app. to cover the Opera ads and also make some use of it:
    http://hjem.get2net.dk/fec/software/software.html
Zip file and with a help and/or readme file. Very small app.

I'd heard there was something to fix that. Thanx buf.

You are welcome crunchie. I am having a difficult time getting Opera to "release" and allow me to go back to IE as my default browser. This has just started because I could do it very easily before I chose Opera as the default browser. Any ideas
I have used the free app. to cover the ads and put some shortcuts there to use either for IE or Opera when one or the other is the default browser. Once set, of course, the shortcuts would be associated with "that" browser only Maybe this is just wishful thinking but I don't see why this can not be done.

EDIT: Just found the answer to my problem--I double clicked on my desktop IE icon and was then asked about making IE the default browser, to which I said yes. I had already gone into IE>Connections and made sure IE was checked there for the default question. All is fixed now. Thanks anyway and good luck with the free "cover up" ad software.

I think much depends on the individual system a particular browser is installed on. I've tried pretty much every browser out there, firefox included. I saw no page rendering speed increase at all over the I.E 5.5sp2 I'm currently using. However, I'll admit this system is seriously tweaked and running extremely light at the same time.

    Talking

Firefox....ah, Firefox. I'm in love with it. I can't be without the tabbed browsing anymore (which I discovered in Netscape 7.1 quite some time ago) and the extensions and customizations are awesome!

I do have other browsers installed on my system as well - hope to have one of each, in order to properly preview my website; also, there are things MS just won't let you do without IE - but this is the one I'm sticking with. I LOVE that it doesn't have a mail client, chat, etc. - if you want that stuff, fine, but if you've got it elsewhere, then by all means get this browser! (geez, I sound like an ad for Mozilla...honestly, just ask my friends )
