Need a DOS printer
Anyone know of a current DOS printer? Prefer inkjet but will consider anything short of monks creating illuminated manuscripts.

Jerry have you checked with Epson? Far as I can find there is one but it's not inkjet, it's dot matrix. Look in their LX models.

Thanks, Photolady. Epson and Oki (and possibly others) make dot matrix printers for DOS. I was hoping for inkjet or laser.

For my response above, I did a google search, but the only responses I got were the Epson LX printers, everything else came back as software. I'll keep looking for you though.

What DOS software are you printing from? Can it be run in a DOS window under Windows? There are inkjet and laser printers than can print standard DOS text directly from DOS, if you don't need any special formatting capabilities. More info on what you actually want to print would be helpful.

Epson printer
Jerry,
I have an Epson LQ-1050 (wide carriage) printer teamed up with my Epson Equity II+ running on DOS v3.3. I bought it in 1987 and it's running fine. It will print near letter quality (LQ) and has served me well for all these years.
I don't see why you can't run an Epson and use DOS as your main boot.
Regards,
Allthumbs

Thanks to all who replied. The request was not for myself but for a friend who has a business program that only runs on DOS.
I hear about such a situation several times a year; a business had a custom app developed years ago. It cost a lot of money and updating or replacing would be very expensive. This is the first time I haven't found a laser printer.

Take a laser printer there and try it. Most should handle it, unless there are interesting fonts/graphics/etc.

Hmmm
It would have to be a parallel printer since DOS doesn't support USB.
And then there's the problem of a DOS driver. In fact, that is the problem. So far as I can find, none of the current printers has a DOS driver.
Later.... THANKS. After stating it had to be parallel, I thought of the HP 1300 as the cheapest parallel laser (from HP anyway) and, for the heck of it, I looked it up on HP's site. Son of a gun! It supports DOS.
I don't how many Google searches I tried.
Teedub, thanks for making me think (a rare event for me) .

Need a Dos printer
There really is a need for a Dos printer, and some software is very difficult to configure and operate thru the Windows software. I speak from the experience of running PM2 software for med office management. Currently we're using for a workhorse the Nec 870 superscript, puffed up with 16 meg ram, but its beginning to make bd squeaky noises....
Anyone know of a printer repair facility for Nec laser printers that is still cheaper than buying a new printer?
The software used requires a Dos driver to print ... and the 870 is compatible with the HP laserjet IIp. Most of the HP IIp and compatibles should work ... but I don't know about the newer printers....
So, if no new options develop for printer repair, I may just have to buy a remanufactured HP IIp or such. But I'd like something at least 12 ppm with at least 8 meg ram. Any suggestions?
