Update Center
As you all know there are a few software update threads that happen in various forums here.
What i (personally) feel would be a good idea and better for the forum would be to have a seperate forum for Updates.
A nearly started a thread on an update to Aida32, but i though id search just incase someone already started one, and there was, by fuelm@n.
im not a fan of double posting, and i know a search would provide the results, but i thinki it would be better for everyone if all updates where in one forum so they are easier to find and discuss.
Just like to know whether this is a possibility as it would only need an extra forum in the main index.
Thanks

How many think this would actually work? How many times have you seen such posts posted in the right forums? Sorry, but I've come to rely on "search" as a way to find posted updates and adding another forum, would IMO, not work.

Photolady:
Your opinion is valid, i just though it would be alot easier if a section where all updates to the common program/software could be advised and not be all over the place.
But as you are the only member that has a opinion on this, i see that it obviously would not be of use to other members.
I can live with it, just thought id throw it in.

I actually like the idea. Updates are ones that should be made as soon as possible, especially critical ones, and they are sometimes difficult to find. So why not make one concentrated forum for all the update news?

Sort of like Windows Update but in Virtual Dr.

As usil said, updates are critical and should members, experienced or not, should be informed and made aware. whether it be spyware or windows updates, they are all important.

I like the idea of an Update Center also, but I think photolady is right. People will continue to post them all over the board and we'll still end up searching or duplicating update notices already made.

I think better safe than sorry. better to have double post than someone missing a critical update post at all. In any case, if something is posted in the wrong forum, mods can move them to the right one.
Also, don't forget that we get many newbies who don't know how to search for it, don't know what an update is and therefore don't know to look for it, or anything of that kind. A dedicated forum will be a lot easier.

It should be treated as a normal forum with normal forum rules.
Therefore a mod should be there, and if a duplicate/or thread in wrong forum, then it should be moved.
Im not saying it will kick in straight away, but as members view the forum they would realise what the forum is about.
It is mostly newer members that dont know their way around the forum, that either double post or cannot find a certain thread.

Nah, the Moderators will just have to MOVE it to the apropriate Forum!

Yeah we do. However, my initial thoughts stay as they are. If we had another forum for updates, we mods would be moving threads posted anywhere but there. Just another forum for others who post in the wrong forum. Besides that, I been thinking, if we had an updates forum, what regulation would be needed to make it a specific update forum. You know...should it be only for XP updates, or Spyware updates, or for all of them. Any thoughts on this?

It should be for all updates, whether it be important windows os updates like the security updates. Things like Spybot, adaware, other spyware removals, basically all that helps us run our computers the right way.

And then after a while, people will still be using the search function to find the correct update in that forum.

I don't think so. If you would have clear subject, such as "Spybot upate 1.8" then it should be quite clear. You can even require that people add a date of release for the update in the subject.

quite possible, but what about the new comers to Vdr.
Newbies who do not know what or when updates are out. Its all good if you know what you are searching for but what if you dont know?
All they would need to do is click on the update forum and it would all be there.
It can also be used to refer back to, such as links and info.
