Network setup

I have 2 computers on a home network using a Linksys Cable router.
I have just purchased another computer and I am not having any success installing it on the network.
I have it plugged into a socket on the router and established a connection to the Internet o/k, but I have mislaid the floppy that I configured when I first setup the network.
I tried using the Network setup wizard from the Windows XP rom with no joy.
Any help greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you got the connection since you got it sharing Internet. There really is no need for running XP's Network Setup Wizard. Exactly what problems are you having?

If the problem you are having is the new machine seeing the others on the network you may need to creat an identical user on the 2 other machines

I can't share a folder from my new computer.
I set up a folder for sharing on my new one which I can see from the other 2 computers.
I cannot see any shared folders on the other 2 from the new one.
If this makes sence.

You didn't specify which operating system you are using but if you are using XP Home, creating an identical user account isn't necessary. That only applies if you are running Windows XP Professional.

Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. It is only intended for direct connections to the Internet. If you installed any third party firewalls, make sure it isn't blocking access to the machines. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all machines.

If you are still having problems, try testing your network shares by clicking Start, Run, and type one of the following commands.

\\computer

\\computer\share

\\IP-address

\\IP-address\share

I am running Windows XP Pro.
On my 2 other computers I can go to: Start>My Network Places> then view the shared folders.
I want to have the this option on my new computer, but when I go to Start there is no option to choose My Network Places.
Unless there is an easier way to share folders between 3 computers.

Right-click the Start menu and choose Properties. Click Customize and click the Advanced tab. Scroll down under the Start menu items and check "My Network Places". Click Apply and Ok.
