    New 120Gbt Hard Disk???

Hi Good Folks, Hope U are All well n in Good Spirits!!
First-----Windows XP Pro...40Gbt Maxtor is Master, 20Gbt fujitsu is Slave...Hitachi DVDRom is Sec Mast, Lite-On CDRW is Sec Slave....80Gbt Maxtor on PCI ATA 100 as Master......

Now I just bought a new 120Gbt Maxtor with 8Mbt Buffer...All others are 2Mbt Buffer....Gona take out the Old 20Gbt Fujitsu as it's not working well, will be replaced with this New Drive....

Now My 40Gbt Maxtor is the C: with OS (i do not want to change it unless it's Crucial)....Will this new 120Gbt/8Mbt Buffer be Ok as the Slave....It's this 8Mbt Buffer thats frustrateing me!!......will it slow down as slave........Or...Should I attach it to the PCI ATA100..

Also I am thinking of Buying a NEC 2500A DVDWriter (any good!)
Will this writer work OK if I hook it up as Master to my PCI ATA 100

Solutions Please, would Be Very Appreciated....Train, DRMDJ, Anyone.........THANKS.........

Assuming your motherboard's bios can handle the 120gb size then there shouldn't be an issue with putting the new drive as slave to the maxtor. I'm assuming also that your motherboard controllers at least support ata/66 if not ata100 (there isn't any real gain with hard drives once ya get above ata66 speed capability so there's no particularly meaningfull penalty having the 120 on the motherboard as opposed to the ata100 card).

As for the Nec 2500a... A very good drive, and a very good value for the money (at least here in the states). Just recommened it to somone the other day in the storage forum. And if the ata card you have supports atapi devices then I see no reason you can't put your dvd writer there.
Please remember to post back whether your problem is resolved or
not, so that others may gain from the knowledge.

Hi DrMDJ, Thanks For Your Advice my Friend....It is Nice to see U are still around.....So first things first is for me to put it on the IDE as Slave, Format it n see if XP should recognise it as a 120Gbt (a bit less after format)..It should recognise a 120Gbt as I have updated my Bios...Normaly get probs with the 160Gbt up if my memory is correct without the SP1..(not installed on mine)(don't want it)......
Yes my board is ATA33/66/100 compliant.....

I will Buy that NEC 2500a then, can get it for £92 this way...
Will try that on the PCI ATA100 then...I can Rip with my DVDRom thats on the IDE n Copy with the NEC..Will let You know how it all goes........Many Thanks, n Take Care.......regards, Dennis...
