    Ie6

I recently reinstalled WinME and currently have IE 5.5 back on my PC. I have tried to install IE6 SP1 but it refuses, it just keeps failing. Anyway I can get IE6 back or should I upgrade to WinXP

Kenjay--You should not have to install XP in order to use IE6 SP1. Here are some instructions that might help
    http://www.broomeman.com/support/wsiedown.html
If that does not work, where is the problem--downloading, installation, etc.? Are you getting error messages. I guess you know you have to be connected to the Internet throughout both download and installation, since the first file you download is only a set-up file. The installation, requiring more downloading, occurs only when you click on the setup file.
System Requirements for IE6 are here
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...p1/default.asp
Click on System Requirements in right column.

    Hi WJ,

It just says setup is unable to install all the components. If I try again it will say there is an unfinished setup etc please reboot.

    Kenjay--Did you reboot?
Did you try what was in the reference I gave you?
If yes to both and no success read here
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;221863&
If still no success, we will need the exact error message.
(Still another approach, but I doubt you will have success as long as that other installation is not complete.

Still no joy. Tried your first link. Cannot boot into Dos with ME. Also Wininit.ini does not exist. Used Startup disk but suggested procedure does not work. i.e Dos does not like "EXIT"

Reinstalled Windows again but no joy. Every time I reboot it asks me to continue with Setup. Which then fails (shows 93%) installed). Think components not installed are IE6 web browser and Offline browsing pack.

    Thanks for your help

Kenjay--Actually what you are doing in the first step of that fix is to disable the wininit.ini file, so not having it in the first place is good. What is bad is that a wininit.ini file is a sign of an incomplete installation. So your situation is puzzling.

Try the scanreg /fix suggestion in that reference (#7). This also has to be run from MS-DOS. I do not run WinME so do not know how to get into DOS, but there must be a way. It says it can be done in the above reference. (If getting out of DOS is the problem, typ win at prompt|Enter.)
    Or
    1) System Restore
    2) Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|Internet Explorer Repair Tool|Wait|Reboot.
I think I have reached the end of ideas, so if not luck, I hope someone else will chime in.
Think components not installed are IE6 web browser ...
If that were the case you could not access this site.
