    Settings

Have you checked all cables.. And all settings in the device manager? I would put the CD_RW as master also..Seems to work better that way.

In dBPower Amp,using dMC Ripper,go into the 'freeDB'dropdown menu and change the CDDB to use a different site. If in the US,change it to: us.freedb.org : For UK check the dBPowerAmp site...

    Thanks for replying to me........
I get no tracks showing in powerAmp.....
Been going through my Hardware Checks in Properties n this is what I found......
Lite-On LTR 48246S Properties .... Shows= General-Properties-DVD Region-Volumes-Driver.<<,I'm almost sure that it should not be showing (DVD Region) in a CDR Writer....Please correct me on this if I'm wrong.......

Hitachi DVDRom GD 2500 Properties....... Shows= General-Properties-Volumes-Driver.....<<<<Shouldn't that DVD Region be in there?!!.......

Also discovered at Startup that my CDRW is on ATA33.....It says "CDRW is secondary slave disk:CDRW ATA33....(secondary slave is correct) That should be either ATA66 or ATA100....

My System has allways Worked Great 1000% with DVDRom as Master n Writer as Slave...Other way would not work proper...

Do you think I have put the DVDRom & CDRW on Wrong Cable in Wrong IDE slot on motherboard......or just on wrong IDE slot! Would that cause these kind of probs...

I took All my Components out of my Old Tower Case n Put it All into this New Tower Case....First Time Ever n boy was it scary!!lol
I did mark everything before takeing em out...Everything was Working 100% in old tower.....I await your kind remarks......

Logically if this is happening to both DVD and CD-R the common link is the cable connecting them to the IDE port, part of the data transfer is missing.
Check IDE pins, make sure one or more of them has not been bent, causing faulty seating.
If all pins look OK and cable is seated and oriented correctly, then try a replacement cable.
If this fails uninstall DVD and CD in Device Manager , reboot enter BIOS and make sure devices have been correctly auto detected, continue to reboot into OS , devices will be redetected, check device manager for confirmation.

Hi Devans123, I did all that you mentioned before comeing here...
So I just did it all again, even changeing the cable..(i have 2 new spare cables) All Pins look ok to me...when i check the Properties of each drive, I have "DVD Region" in the Writer properties...Am I correct in saying that a CDR/W Writer can Not Read DVDs & should that be within the DVDRom Properties....."Info Tool" says it cant read DVDs, so why has it got "DVD Region" in there...Like as if WinXPPro is detecting the drives the wrong way round..(in wrong order) is that possible!!
I can Play Music from a Music CDR, I can play MP3s from a CDR, I can Open my Photos from CDr But I can Not Rip Music n I can Not Copy on the Fly n I can Not Drag n Drop or Cut n Paste Music to copy...(well i can do the later, but the file says "extension.cda, length (m:ss)0:00,size:0kbt.. n won't play...
PowerAmp can not read the "Table of Contents" in order to Rip...
This has baffled Me......I got this System running Great, Done All Tweeks, n got rid of what i don't need, no probs till now....
Don't want to Re-Format again unless it's Absolutly necessery as it's taken me a long time to get this System 100% Stable....
So any Ideas, or are you as lost as I am on this......
Everything I have learnt has been through 'virtualdr' Thanks to Everyone hear......Catch you L8er..

Before you start this, delete both drives from device manager, shut down.

Check to sure that the jumper settings on the back of both your drives are set properly, one as slave and one as master. Just to simplify things, have the master drive connected to the end of the IDE cable and the Slave to the middle connector.

Boot, XP will re-recognize each drive. Go back into Device Manager, Open up IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, double click (one at a time) on both the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels, select the advanced settings tab and verify that the transfer mode is set to "DMA if Available" on each device.

You didn't mention what mobo you have, but do you have the latest drivers installed for it's chipset? Also, the best order for installing drivers on a fresh install is: mobo chipset drivers first, video drivers second, sound drivers third, Nic and/or modem drivers fourth then peripherals.

Also,,you mentioned several burning programs won't work. If you have two or more of these installed at the same time, this can definitely cause problems with your burner. Last,,do you have an ASPI layer installed?

I would try something like this.
Go into safe mode and remove everything refering to the cd/dvd components .
Shutdown, remove both and the reboot, then shutdown again. Hookup the dvd and boot up. Check it out. If all was ok, then i would shutdown again and hookup the other device. But check to be sure the jumper is on right. Had them and connectors back off a tad and that causes all kinds of fits.
Might even check the voltages at the wall socket.
Is there a electric motor on that line? Might check was all is hooked to the line as it could be pulling the voltage down. I had to rebuild a computer because a freezer on the same line fried everyhing in the computer. Was able to only save the case. Seems the capacitors [large] discharged back through the line when it shutoff.

Hi Train, I did more or less what you said days ago, except I did not Hook back up, one at a time, i did both together.....So will try your full method later........Excuse my Ignorance in Electronics Please, But What has other electricals on same syrcit gota do with it.....The Electrics here are the "Ring System"......
As regards a 'surge' that could of happened, but not got a clue if it did......But what my silly brain needs to know is, All working OK one minute, then the next min it changes.......

Anyway, before reading your answer here, I did this.......
I poped into My Computer (right clicked) Properties etc., Checked what my DVDRom was + Writer, they was as follows----DVD=Pio Mode, Lite-On Writer = Ultra DMA......So Then I Deleted the "Secondary Channel" that they be on & ReBooted......
They then Changed to these-----DVD=Multi-Word DMA Mode 2....
    Lite-On Writer=Ultra DMA Mode 2.....
Funny thing is, the DVDRom has Always worked on Pio Mode for nigh on 6 years.....Would my New Update of the BIOS cause this??
Plus I Updated the Drivers for my PCI ATA100, could that have caused a HicUp!!.......Still Baffled as to Why it should show a DVDRegion in a CDWriter.....Will Let you All Know if I have Solved it or Not!...Many Thanks......

Hi Train n Everyone Else.........ALL SORTED n WORKING OK @ moment.........Before Doing what you sugested train, I decided to have a very last check on some recently installed programs....I had Already deleted 5 programs I thought were causeing probs...
Went into startup, plus i used "Windows Startup Inspector" found that 'Nero Check' is there twice, (not stoped that un yet as not sure if i should), plus SlySoft (any dvd) was there....So I Un-Installed SlySoft (Any DVD) n to my surprise, my DVD Region is back within it's DVDRom Properties where it should be.....
NOW, Why would Any DVD change it to my CDRW Writer.....Very Strange that!!.....So anyone else useing Slysofts Any DVD software, Please Check your DVDRoms Properties in My Comp....

I will get my Nephew (who's an Electrician) to check my Electrics anyway...I need more plugs so he can Wire the extra conections from my main fuse Box.....
THANK YOU ALL for Your Help......Catch Ya Soon....Dennis..
