CD-RW does not record
I am unable to use the write-record feature of my CD. My PC is a Dell
Dimension 4400. Playing any CD is not a problem.
Windows XP Home Edition version 5.1.2600
When the CD is inserted and closed you see the CD activity light starts
blinking non-stop.
This goes on about 2 or 3 minutes and then the CD ejects itself.
When I open My Computer under devices with removable storage the CD shows
clearly:
CD-RW drive (D
But when I right click on CD-RW in My Computer to get
properties, I go to the hardware tab, it shows:
Name: Liteon LTR-24102M Type: CD-ROM Drives
In the hardware tab I highlight my CD then click on properties, again it
shows under device type: CD-ROM drives.
Under the driver tab I have the following information:
Provider
Roxio
Version 5.10 (103)
Copyright 2001 Roxio, Inc.
Not digitally signed
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\
cdr4_xp.sys
cdralw2k.sys
cdrom.sys <--------
imapi.sys
lmapiRox.sys
MxlW2k.sys
pwd_2k.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll
The CD itself is right out of a brand new box of 10.
Maxell CD-R CD.
700 MB
CD Recordable
80 min.

Work from the simple to the complex.
Try a new blank.
Reinstall the Drive physically. Reconnect cables. Reboot.
Next, in device manager, remove the device (your Lite On), reboot and check device manager.
Is this unit on XPs compatability list?
Does it need new or updated drivers? (Check Lite On site)
Just a few ideas to get you started.

Try the solution offered here:

uninstalling the CD burning update (Q309691) solved this. If you have the CD burning update (from Windows Update), go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and find it near the bottom of the list. It's called "Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) [See Q309691 for more information]". ...click the change /remove button to remove it . Then go into device manager and unistall the cd drive and then reboot ...Also if you reboot and look in device manager it is fine then that was problem
But if you dont have it try downloading microsoft burning update patch
