    Deleting The Index.Dat File

My Windows XP Pro will not allow me to delete the Index.dat file (record of web sites visited). The file is very large and getting larger.

Is there a “work around” to delete this file? A freeware application that will do it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Creekman

tweak xp is pretty good, i own a copy that i dont use anymore. for deleting internet trash, i personally prefer purgeie, its alot less expensive, 20 bucks. granted it does not do all that tweak does, but it is very good at what it does.

    System Security Suite v1.04 (free)

System Security Suite (3S) is the program to remove internet tracks and junk files from your computer. It allows you to delete Cookies, clear Internet Explorer Cache, delete index.dat Files, clear Typed URLs, Windows Temp Folder and much more. You can also specify custom folder locations with file masks, which will be cleaned in addition to the selected items. In addition, the program allows you to view and optionally remove programs that launch automatically at Windows startup as well as Browser Helper Objects.

I really appreciate all of the replies that I have received. I am going to give Security System Suite v1.04 a try.
