System Resources / "Out of Memory" Errors

I have a PC running Windows 98SE. Upon loading, my available resources are low - around 60%. The computer has an Intel Celeron 466 with 384 MB RAM (256+128).

Also, I will run into memory issues at times like "Out of Memory" errors and/or lines across the screen with a refresh clearing some of the lines.

Anyway, how can I improve my system resources? And, how can I prevent and/or reduce my "Out of Memory" errors?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions you can provide,
    Jody Wood

In Windows 98, Me, and XP:

Click on start and then run type "MSconfig" in the box without the "" and click OK
Go to the tab at the top that says Startup, you will see alot of checkboxes. Now just take out what you don't need. This will not remove programs from your computer it just keeps them from running at startup.
Then click Apply then Ok, then on the popup box click Yes to restart your computer.

What Checks should I leave in?

In Windows 98 leave checks in the boxes that says:
    ScanRegistry
    TaskMonitor
    SystemTray
LoadPowerProfile (there may be more than one)
    SchedulingAgent
And any Antivirus, Firewall, or High speed internet programs.

JodyWood,What I would say is clean out a lot of the junk you have on your puter FIRST,60% isn't to bad BUT with a Celeron it may just be enough.
