OT 01/18/04 What ever happened to....
Manners!
I went shopping today and not one of the clerks I spoke with said please, thank you. I bumped into somebody and said "Oh I'm sorry. Pardon me." He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign tongue. On my way out I held the door open for a lady in a wheelchair and four kids rushed out the door as she was struggling to get in! If I wasn't a law abiding citizen I would have kicked the living s*** out of them. If one of them was my kid I wouldn't have hesitated. There was an adult with them who gratefully didn't try to shoot through but gave the lady grief for not using the door for the handicapped on the lower level of the shopping mall!
Between this OT and my last I wouldn't blame you for thinking I'm a grumpy old codger but I'm not I'm only 42.

OT!
We used to have quite a bit of traffic on the OT threads. And don't give any cr*p about the subject matter! I know this wasn't the best but hey I waited a day for somebody else to post something.

A bit impatient are we? LOL Sorry, couldn't resist that one Calpitor.
I agree with you. People have no manners now days. And like you said, if you're polite they look at you like your from some other planet. Even people our ages seem to have lost the common courtesy idea.

Geeze I dont know whats up with the OT, looks like the members have lost interest, maybe we should abolish it. Anyways I know what you mean about manners & it doesn't matter what age group it is. I mostly like to be polite to the elderly, like if I see one waiting to cross the street or waiting to pull out into traffic I always stop & let them proceed. Maybe one out of 10 will acknowledge that you made an effort to be polite with a nice wave or smile. Things are just not like they used to be. BJ

Ever stop to think, we have the same gripes? Not much can be added so why say the same thing again.
BJ, I maybe a bit luckier as I very seldom do not get acknowledged when I stop and let someone pull out in front of me. But then a 6,000 + pound van can be intimidating
Yes, I have run it across the scales. 6250lbs the last time I did that.

Well actually Train the threads was "What ever happened to...." fill in the blank. Maybe I should have been somewhat more explanatory. And I guess I am a little grumpy must be these post Christmas/Pre-Visa billess days has me down. Maybe I'll get lucky and some nit wit with too much time on his hands will come up with something as horrible as MSBlaster soon. I can't beleive i just said that i sound like an ambulance chasing lawyer. But hey balster did make me a whack of cash...

No bills coming in this year again. Learned not to use the plastic ages ago. Made me happy
Wife got her computer upgrade to a MSI KT4AV-L mobo with a XP2500 Barton plus a combination DVD / video tape player for the TV . So she is smiling.
Yep, money, the lack there of can be rough. Make one wish for all kinds of "BAD" things

Manners...
Having lived in Israel for 6.5 years now, I can say that Manners is one thing that I sorely miss. I just came back from a vacation in England, where I guess I had forgotten how polite people are. Every little bump is followed by a "pardon me" or "sorry", and if you are in someones way, an "execuse me". In my part of the world, you either knock them off their feet, or get knocked off yourself unfortunately. I guess some parts of the world will always prevail when it comes to manners.

'Plastic' long gone here also.
What do you think of this solution to get out of credit card debt??

Wouldn't 'that' go down the wrong tube with Visa,Mastercard and the rest of the money grubbers?
Stupid question? No such thing!

Manners
They still exist, it's only the minority (but unfortunately growing)who don't have any and something not so nice always appears to happen to them.
I'm a great believer in being polite and mannerable to others because they will be likewise towards you. It has never done me any harm using the words 'please', 'thank you' or 'excuse me'.
The one thing that really gets on my nerves is hearing the 'F' word virtually everyday, you hear it on TV and most modern films will always have a character/charactors who will be given lines with that word frequently in them.
As far as I'm concerned those who have to continually use the word to express themselves as part of their conversational level are unable to speak English. I am not saying I have never used it.
Calpitor
I'm sorry to have to say this but kicking the living s*** out of anyone is not going to resolve any issue in respect of manners and by doing so would more than likely end in tears with the perpetrator appearing before a Magistrate. I'm sure that you wouldn't do such a thing in the first place and you used it as an expression of annoyance.
BJ
Please don't get rid of the weekly OT.

There are well mannered people around these days, but its getting very hard to find them.
I have been raised in away to respect people and to be polite.
Im 20 and sometimes these days when i see other people, i feel like im 40 (in a growing up way)
I have developed my own principles and im proud of them, so know when i see people my age and under acting like they are ten, i just start to think, what went wrong in the world.
If/when i have kids, i would do everything i can so they turn out to have manners, respect and morals.
But will have to wait for that
In some way i agree with Calpitor, but i also agree with TJ
I dont think that a kicking the s**t out of them would do anything, not in this day anyway. but there should be away that its legal

Interestingly enough, I have found that certain area's are better than others. It seems to me that where I live (The city I live in) people seem to be more polite than If I were to go t a bigger City. Just my imagination?
I am seeing less effort from people to be polite these days though....Read your last thread and I have to say that I blame parenting for a good portion of these attitudes.
