backing up DVD's
i have few dvds that arent in very good condition (they... um... fell accidentally...it wasnt me...)and i wanted to know if theres a program i can use to backup the dvd into an mpeg format so i can still watch them... is this possable?

PSP, its like cheese you can listen to outside

Remember that there are licensing/legality issues if the DVD's are copyrighted material.
There are companies that repair damaged disks. That costs some money. There are also some devices such as this one..

..that claim to be able to fix them as well but I've never used one. Perhaps someone else here has.

You could try DVDXCOPY PLATINUM which includes DVD X Rescue that is made for damaged dvd copying. I have not used the Rescue program myself but I use DVDXCOPY with invariably excellent results.

I concur. The DVD XCOPY family of products is the end-all, be-all of this genre. Works really well, simply nothing better.
Various Windows and Linux platforms...
