    Heads up about Juno

Anyone read their service agreement recently?
    What the hell is this?

    Section 2.5
"You expressly permit and authorize Juno to (i) download to your computer one or more pieces of software (the "Computational Software") designed to perform computations.....Juno may require that you leave your computer on at all times, and may replace the screen saver software that runs on your computer...... you agree not to take any action to disable or interfere with the operation of either the screen saver software or any other component of the Computational Software..."

Let me see if I understand this. Juno wants to use the end users systems to do computations. That must mean that their existing systems do not do computations. Yeah RIGHT!

Just a heads up. Anyone that agrees to this is foolish! This appears to me to be Spyware at its finest!

Is this a belated April Fools joke. If it is, good one. If it's not then WOW!!! I wonder how many people know this?

This is not an April fools joke.
One of my clients printed out their service agreement for me. Its 17 pages long

"You agree that, as between you and Juno, Juno shall have sole rights to the results of any computations performed by the Computational Software, including without limitation andy revenues or intellectual property generated directly or indirectly as a result of such computatiuons, without further compensation to you."

This is absolutely ludicrous! Basically they want to access your computer and use the information that they get in any way they want

I would highy recommend dumping them!

i have juno as well...they emailed me a while back and proposed using my computer as well as other members' computers as part of their system...to expand their power and do computations...in effect to combine their members into a giant mainframe...

they said it was optional...sounds like bunk to me. it's firewall time.

    Thats ridiculous!
Theyre saying in essence that they can do whatever they want to your computer without your control
I dont buy off on this computational crap at all. Something is very wrong with the picture!

    Dump them!

How do we make sure we already don't have
Juno and how do we clear our systems of them if we do?

If you've been to www.juno.com and registered, then you'll 'have' Juno, if not I wouldn't worry. Apparently he's a small mexican with a large moustache that serenades my Mother in-law every night, so she tells me!

I particularly like the part that says that if you're not online, Juno will dial up their server using a predetermined phone number and you will have to pay for any phone costs arising from this. I think this came up a little while ago in another thread, it never ceases to amaze me though.
It definitely reinforces the notion of RTFM or make sure you read the Terms of Service, even if they are long winded.

So, someone's trying to use your compuer to their own ends. Juno's not the only one....go to www.grc.com and let steve gibson help you to Close Your Ports! If you have win95 or 95a, you'll need NoShare (in the ShieldsUp FAQ) to close port 139.

Yea, I read them also. The part that really Bothers me though, is the fact that will get alot of IDIOTS to do this. Thinking hey as long as it is free. Of coarse these are the ones that need to be wearing their sign...
