Computer won't recognize my Canon camera
I have installed the software for (Canon ELPH Camera) by inserting the disk that came with the camera - but then later when I go to the scanners and cameras the Canon ELPH is not listed. I have also used the 'add device' option, but only selection of cameras are for outdated Canon cameras. If I click on 'have disk' get message info not listed. Same thing when trying to use cameras and scanners for installation.
No doubt the computer is 2 and 1/2 years old and older than the current digital cameras, but must be a way to get this camera recognized by the computer.
Specifics:
CPU - SONY VAIO desktop
1GB processor
hdd = 40 GB
RAM - 368
Any suggestions appreciated.

You say you installed the software for the camera ,did you install the drivers for the camera ,and then plug it into the usb and turn it on.Most cameras tell you to install drivers before plugging in the camers ,.

With the pc off.........
try connecting the camera, turning the camera on, then turn the pc on. Usually it will find the appropriate drivers if it sees the device.
Make sure your driver disk is in the cd drive when you do this, it may ask you for drivers.

Also check the cameras menu you can usually have it set to be detected as either a camera or an extra drive [which wouldn't appear where your looking].
Have you also tried using the latest driver from the cannon website?

Installation of Canon camera
To TangZ and BillieBob, I did go online and download update from the Canon website. Then installed that - and lastly, I re-ran the installation disk. It took some extra patience to wait on the last part of the installation disk - but it worked. After I finished the installation I was able to upload a pic from the camera. Now, its a matter of figuring out how to lose all the different features. Thanks for the help.
