    Printer Problem

Ever since I set up my home network my printer won't work on my home computer. Any idea what it could be? I am running Windows XP.

    Greetings Raydee,

Without more details it's really hard to say. Please give as much details as possible so we can help you. It very well could be that all you need to do is run the Add Printer Wizard again.

Troubleshooting network printing are usually caused at the local level, and they are not all related to network issues. Make sure the printer attached to the machine is working and that file and printer sharing is enabled.

The machine that is attached to the printer:

    1. Click Start, Settings, and then click Printers.
    2. Click the printer you wish to use, and select it and then right-click and choose Sharing.
    3. Click the "Share this printer" option.
    4. Give it a share name then click Apply.
    5. Then click Ok.
    6. Then click Ok.

Ensure that all firewalls are disabled while troubleshooting. Disable XP's firewalls on local area networks. It's only intended for direct connections to the Internet. If you are running any third party firewalls, make sure they are either removed or properly configured for the network.

Then on the second machine, click Start, Settings, and click Printers. You'll tell it to add a Network Printer. Click 'Add a Printer' and follow the Add Printer Wizard.

    Howdy:

Ecross has it nailed for the most part.. just want to add one thing.. Make sure you load the drivers and operating program for the printer on every system you want using that printer..

Hey guys I found the problem! A pin on my printer port was bent. Looks like USB hookup did the trick.
