BellSouth Anti-Virus
I'm not advertising for BellSouth...just passing information along:
+++++++++++++++++++++
In an effort to help customers enjoy a safe and secure computing environment, BellSouth MailGuard provides FREE anti-virus protection for all BellSouth Internet Service customers. This feature is automatically activated on all BellSouth e-mail accounts.
BellSouth MailGuard Service is automatically activated on all BellSouth e-mail accounts and it’s absolutely FREE!
MailGuard Service is located within the BellSouth network and identifies spam messages using filters. Although filtering spam messages is an automated process, users still have the ability to manage their e-mail messages while helping to combat spam. MailGuard Service is initially set to automatically delete spam, but you may choose to review messages or turn off the service.
In order to protect BellSouth Internet Services customers as well as protect BellSouth's network infrastructure from the spread of harmful computer viruses and worms, a network-based, e-mail virus protection solution is now part of the BellSouth MailGuard Service.
When BellSouth MailGuard Anti-Virus Service identifies a virus it is cleaned from the e-mail before it is delivered to mailbox. If a worm is identified, the e-mail is automatically deleted from the system and is not delivered at all.
This program uses BrightMail with anti-virus technology provided by Symantec. Allyn and I have tested it...it works as advertised.
Guess my EZ AV 6.1.7 on my PC is now a "back-up" in case something slips by Bellsouth's anti-virus program.
I think some other ISP's are offering similar services....I hope so cause we still got folks out there operating without an updated anti-virus program on their computers.

You're correct that several ISPs do offer the same anti-virus protection when receiving e-mail in their servers as my ISP does. I don't use my ISP e-mail account but rather use a couple other e-mail accounts I pay for which offer spam and virus protection also. Having said all that, one should still have an onboard virus program and spam filtering program on their system.
