I don't know much about digitals because I haven't purchased one yet. However, since I too use 35mm and have for years, I don't think I want a digital that only says: SLR-like. I'm not sure what price range you have in mind, but if it were me, I'd be looking for an honest to goodness full SLR digital where I could use my SLR lenses.
Ok, now I know. The FinePix S7000 would be the better choice if you're set on Fuji. One thing I didn't like about the 5000 model storage card is a : xD-Picture Card, where the 7000 model storage card is: xD-Picture Card Compact Flash Type I/II & Microdrive. The 5000 is USB 1.1 the 7000 is USB 2.0.
On to more: 5000 model focus range is:
Normal: 90 cm - Infinity
Macro: 10 cm - 200 cm
7000 model focus range is:
Normal: 50 cm - Infinity
Macro: 10 cm - 80 cm
Super-Macro: 1 cm - 20 cm
edited by poster: in compliance with some, it was wrong of me to state that digitals don't do macro well.
In my opinion, if you've used 35mm for years, and you buy a digital, you should buy one that will be as good as your 35mm is.
That's all I have to say on this subject.
