    restarting issue

    clean install of Windows XP SP1a. Mainboard is a SOLTEK SL-75KAV. Flashed the BIOS to latest revision (Q.11). Now when in GUI, restarting system results in no display on monitor and you must power off system for a good 30 seconds before you can boot up again. Also, the scanner will not detect...the scanner is connected to PC via parallel port and also there is a printer attached via scanner...the printer prints, however, Windows will not recognise scanner. I feel this is a BIOS issue...any ideas?

    Hello,

    I don't have the motherboard in front of me to look at. It is my guess the flash is corupted in some way. Probably when you downloaded it?? Try re-downloading it from another site and reflash it. Sorry it is all I can think of to do at this time. Otherwise you will probably have to flash it back to a previous version. You did save the old version?

    Make sure to set the bios to system defaults before flashing it! Often times you will get different results if you don't do that.

    response I got from SOLTEK support...the pretty standard claer cmos response:

    ==============================================

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    Thanks for contacting Soltek.
    We have run "GUI" under Win XP Pro SP1 with BIOS Q11. However, it worked fine without any problems.
    Please follow the steps below to test if the reboot problem is fixed and whether the scanner is
    detected correctly:
    1) Clear CMOS data:
    a) Turn off your system and unplug the power cord.

    b) Move cap of JBAT1 from pin1~2 to pin2~3.

    c) After 30 seconds, return the cap back to pin1~2.

    d) Power on to Load Optimized Defaults in BIOS.
    2) Log in Windows XP and enter "Device Manager" to check if the scanner is working fine. If there
    is a question/exclamation mark before it, please install it's original driver and test if it works
