Laptop hardware upgrades
I've recently upgraded my laptop. I'm not going to tell you what I've done to it, I want you to tell me what you think is possible.
I'll tell you what I've actually upgraded later.

Usually the best upgrades I've seen for a laptop is either a bigger hard drive and more memory. Depending on when you'll need to do something like burning CD's, I'd actually recommend something external... that way it will go with you to different PC's.
Laptops are usually one of those things that I max out when I buy them. The memory and hard drive are usually easy enough to replace, but most of the other components aren't quite as easy. If you want lots of places you can upgrade... but a desktop PC.

Hey, I never said it was a good idea.
Some laptops are more upgradable than others.

I thought VDr users loved polls.

I think we do like polls but this is more of a guessing game than a poll really. Perhaps you might have asked what users would like to upgrade rather than what they think could be upgraded?

It was meant to be more of a survey.
I'm curious about what people think is possible. I was surprised when I found out what I could do to mine.

Ok, I have read this thread for a few days, then I voted.
I chose HDD, Cd-ROM and Memory. My reasons for this are: Most Laptops that's all you can change. If you have been able to change more, then I'd say you were one of the lucky ones.

Ok this is going way back... In the old days IE 486 25 mghtz there were color dtsn screens you could replace your old black and white screens with. Hard drives have always been a good upgrade along with memory. Many manufacturers offered modems and modem flashes. Sound was about the only thing that wasn't upgradable on old laptops but the new ones with usb ports can always run a sound blaster live extigy usb sound card. Video cards are replaceable and sometimes you can mix em and get better cards. You can buy video cards for laptops from NewEgg even!! You can add usb 2.0 to any laptop with 32 pcmcia slots running windows 98 or better. Newer models of laptops can often run diferent screens with higher resolutions and such.
The only thing about laptops is they require more work to modify usually and the are kinda proprietary! With usb and Pcmcia though almost anything is possible! I have a 150 mmx that plays back DVD perfectly! Margi dvd decoder cards
If it ain't broke, you arn't trying hard enough!!

I've just noticed 4 and 5 are the same. Oops.
Anyway, some laptops have optional screens and you can upgrade later if you get the parts. I didn't. 1600×1200 is not worth £400.
I did upgrade the CPU and video card though.
