Icon view reverts back to Tile view
On my desktop I created a folder containing shortcuts that I don’t use as much as the ones I have left on my desktop. When I open this folder, I would like to view all of the shortcuts as “Icons” (View>Icons) rather than “Tiles”. I change the setting to Icons, but when I restart my computer (and sometime it’s after a few restarts) it reverts back to Tiles. "Remember each folders view settings" is checked under the Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
Could it possibly be attributed to the fact that the folder has been created directly on the desktop, or the fact that all of the files in the folder are shortcut files? Keep in mind I want the view to be in Icon mode for only this folder, not all folders. Can anyone help? Thanks.

This is a common problem with XP, I like all my folders to show the details view, but every now and then I'll open one and it will be back to Tiles again.
One thing you could try is to change the number of folders that Windows remembers the settings for (400 by default). To do so you need to create a new DWord value in the Registry in:
HK_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Shell
Set it to whatever value you like.
Nick.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I barely ever change registry settings. I know how to get to HK_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Shell,
but I do not know what to do thereafter.

That link is exactly what I needed. It's working so far after 1 reboot. Thanks!
