    Windows 95 and newer motherboards

I heard that the drivers for a lot of new motherboards on do it yourself kits do not support Windows 95 if you wish to install 95 on the system you are building. Does anyone know any workarounds or solutions to this?

At my work we've managed to install NT4 workstation on brand new Pentium 4 2.8ghz machines, with no need for any specific motherboard drivers. NT4 is from the same era as Windows 95.

AMD-based systems are more likely to need chipset drivers and such.

If you are just talking about things like sound card etc... it pretty much depends on if the manufacturer has provided drivers. The alternative is... write your own drivers

I'm not even going to ask why you want Windows 95. Most newer software, especially games won't even run on it.

You can look at my adventure at asus P4S533 and Windows 95. I had to use the AMD patch, which I put instructions for installation here. I have instructions at Windows 95 Installation as well.

I have had to move to 98 for most of my stuff because of the above mentioned reasons. USB is pretty much useless in Windows 95. And most new equipment requires 98 or it won't install.

Using new large hard drives (over 32gb) is a hassle too.

You will have problems installing anything under Windows 98 Second edition on any newer board as the drivers simply aren't being written for them.As for USB Win 95 wasn't really able to support much in that line even in version C which has limited support for version 1 but none for version 2.
If you want win 95 you might be better either getting an older system from ebay or using a virtual PC system like VMware Workstation 4 .

Anecdote: I installed Win95b on a MLR810 mobo, couldn't install 'SystemBoard7', needed newer ver of 'windows installer'. I could probably have 'pirated' a copy of the installer from a Win98 CD, but opted to install '98fe, worked fine...

P.S. Will see if updated installer is available...
