    NT4 domain upgrade to Win2000

We have finally been forced to try Win 2000 server.

I have built a spare NT4 server as BDC, promoted to PDC. Upgraded to W2K server. all seems ok - user accounts migrated happily. file permissions/exchange accounts all OK.

the problem now is that logging on to the network takes an age...

we have a scattered WAN - 20 subnets each subnet is running a NT4 server. Our subnet has 6 NT4 servers and the 1 W2k server.

do I need to tell the NT4 servers to authenticate? or do I need to upgrade the NT4 to W2k to do it?

    cheers

This problem is more than likely a DNS issue. Unlike NT4, Win2K is heavily dependant on DNS. Make sure your clients are pointing to a valid DNS server in your local subnet. Also, make sure your Win2K server is configured as a Global Catalog.
