Post Sharing drives etc on Win2kPro

G'day everyone. I have P4-2.4, intel MB 512DDR2700, 80g Maxtor with 6 partitions running W2kPro on C:\Boot. I run router and DSL using LAN for home network to share printer/fax/copier single entity. I only share one folder with the other puters on the LAN for transferring files etc. My problem is that all my partitions keep on defaulting to being shared totally in My Computer - properties of each drive. If I go to each individual drive and change the sharing to NOT Shared, apply etc. they will change then but will default back to being shared again on next bootup or login. Changes as above have been done as Admin. There is probalby some default setting somewhere to mess with to change this, but my limited, but learning, knowledge does not provide me with the answer. This will probably be simple to solve, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

The C: drive should have a defualt system share name of C$. It is possible to add an additional share to share the whole drive. Click on the "Share Name" drop down. If you see something other than C$, bring it up then click remove share.

Yep this is a feature of Windows 2000 (and NT, and XP Pro)

Only administrators can access this share so normally its fine to leave it alone.

Anyway, follow the instructions here if you really want to remove the Administrative Shares: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314984

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the answer Steve R Jones and Rapmaster. It explains it all very well. I checked out the site, read the info, and this blinding flash hit me right in the peepers.......logged in as admin, drives showed as shares etc. etc. Sheeesh. I had read that before when I first installed the W2k in book I found at library - alzheimers already?!?!
Just wondering what color the "D" should be on the new pointed hat I should be wearing?

Thanks again to both of you for the response and help. I will be leaving things the way they are.

That's twice for you Rapmaster - we are going to have to stop meeting like this...grin

    Have a good'un.
