SpyCop VERSION update.
Due to the version update, you'll have to un-install the previous version.
This can be accomplished through either the Start/Programs/SpyCop/Un-Install Scanner route or by going to the un-installer (unins000.exe) in the folder where SpyCop installed.
PRIOR to un-installing, you'll want to start SpyCop, then click "Help" and "About". Copy down your "Licensed to" name and "License#" exactly as written! (you'll need it when you go to register the new version).
Then shut down SC, un-install it and d/l the latest version from here: http://www.spycop.com/ and then re-start your computer and install the new version (registering it again in the process).
That'll require another re-start of the program, at which time you need to go into the "Settings" field and re-enter any and all drives you want scanned, etc. .
Just for the heck of it, check the program for updates again before running the new version (you'll see the "Latest News" section in there now when you update), making sure that you run a "Full" scan to start with (do not put a checkmark in the "Settings" box that says "Only scan files that were created after the last scan" until after you run this first scan with the new version!).
Get a cup of coffe, walk the dog, play with the kids - the first scan took about 30 minutes to complete here.
Other than the "Latest News" section, one addition to the database and a change in the default install location, I didn't notice anything different.
I'll shoot them an email and ask if there's anything else we all should know. Pete

Pete:
This is "for sale" (as opposed to free) software, is it not?
If so, do they not automatically notify their customers when updates occur?
Or doesn't the software check automatically?

Hi, WhitPhil!
Yes, SpyCop is "payware" and, no, they don't notify you when there's an update - they let you check for yourself with the built-in updater in the program (it's not programmable for a certain time or day of the week - it's best just to always check for updates before running a scan). Pete
