network security (win xp pro)
i just set up a network to distribute dsl throuought 3 computers all running windows XP (pro) and i was wondering how to enable the window that would ask you for a network username and password and how to create said username and password... thanx

and just so you know it is a wireless network if it matters

assumptions.
i am assuming you are not asking about working from a domain, but rather you have three computers that are set up for a more or less peer to peer network.
windows XP differs from windows 2000 in that it has what is called "simple file sharing"set up as default. so you either are open to everyone or no one at all.
but you can get back to the point where you are essentially setting up your own ACLs again.

p.s.
forgot to really try to answer your question.
basically, what will happen is that, if it behaves as i expect it to, if you are not logged on to your local machine under a username/passwd pair that is registered with permissions to the directory/files that you are trying to access, windows will automatically launch a dialog box that asks you to login, in order to authenticate your credentials to access those files.
let us know how that goes.
