Data folder sync program

I've been using "briefcase" to sync data folders. It works well for folders up to several hundred MB's.

My problem is now I'm dealing with folders that contain 10-30GB's. Briefcase begins to scan for differences and quickly shuts down.

Any ideas on a sync program that can handle folders this size?

BTW, I don't know if it makes a difference but the main disk with data folders is basic while the slave drive to be synced is dynamic.

I stopped using briefcase once I upgraded to Win2k. I now just create a map, and choose the option to "make available offline". You can configure it to synch automatically when you shut down/logon, or manually. The mapped drive is always available to me in Win Explorer, whether connected or not.

It does an incremental check and only backs up what needs to be backed up. I've done it on a share with more than 1gb of data, but never as much as you have.

Still, might be worth a shot. It may take a while the first time you try it, but it should work.

kv, are you talking about over a network? I'm trying to sync folders on 2 HDD's on the same machine.

SmartSync (http://www.smsync.com/) is a fantastic solution. It'll sync within a drive or across a network or out across the Internet to a drive on an FTP server. Better yet, you can tell it to sync to more than one machine. I've been using it for months, love it big time. A had a couple small questions that their tech support people answered quickly. When I asked a third question (How to shut down Outlook so SmartSync could back up it's files as well) they wrote me a tiny little application that does exactly that.

I could not recommend them more highly. It may be more power than you need but if it's the right fit to your need I think you'll be pleased.

svigneaux, that one looks promising. I'll give it a try along with one I found in another thread. That one was called BeyondCompare.
