Question Accessing my work server from home

    Hi everyone

I'm running an NT4 server at work. Here is a question.

Say for example I'm working from home and want to connect to my business server to fix or change some settings on the server if its rather urgent.

Is there a way you can do it via through the Internet or modem dial up?

    Just out of curiousity,

First of all, its a bad idea for security reasons

Anyways, you could do this by installing Terminal Services on the server. If the server doesn't have a direct connection to the Internet then you will also need some kind of VPN to get in.

    Hi Rapmaster

Thanks for pointing that out about the security risk concerns however I will take your advice.

We do have a VPN installed, but will give a go on the suggestion you made about Terminal Services.

    Thanks

Considering the fact that you have a Windows NT Server, you may find it hard to install Terminal Services since it is a seperate product from NT Server. You might want to try something like PCAnywhere. Just make sure that you have the settings to blank the screen of the server, disable the mouse/keyboard, and logout (or lock) the server on disconnect. Anyone who is at the server will see everything you do if you do not.

Ya sorry Terminal Services was a bad example for NT... plus you run into all sorts of licensing problems.

PCAnywhere is good, and here's another one: http://www.realvnc.com
