rename printer? NOT!
Why can't I rename a printer? It's current name is the network path. Rename isn't an option on right click. User has administrator rights.
WinXP Professional
Thanks in advance.

To err is human. To forget to turn the NumLock on is just plain stupid.

Just so I can get this straight....The printer in question is a network printer you are accessing over the network from a print server?
If that is the case then I do not know of anyway in Win2K or WinXP to change the printer name on the client side...The only way I know of is to change the Netwrok printer share name on the Server side (That I know o...I have tried before).

Yep, it's a network printer accessed across the network. In Win98, you can rename the printer on your pc to a recognizable name. You're not actually renaming the PRINTER, but more just the name of it listed under Start/Settings/Printers. In WinXP, you can't although WinXP HELP says that you can if you have print manage permissions. Where are these permissions located? If I go to the "User Setup", I don't see any printer permissions and they're not located under Printers.

I just now did it with XP Pro. Start/Settings/Printers and I right clicked on the network printer down the hall and renamed it for "my station"....
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
