Unhappy Sticky Keys Function & Location Help

    Hello Everyone!

Well, I've done it now! I was playing a PC Pinball game and the flippers use the SHIFT keys. After I hit the keys a few times in quick succession, my game froze and I got a pop up from my computer with the title, "Sticky Keys" on the title bar. Basically, it was reacting to keys being hit alot. I clicked for the Sticky Keys to ignore this and I finished my game with no problems. Today, however, I see that when I type, I have to pause a second when there are two letters together to type them. Same with Backspacing or spacing or any keyboard key. Now....Where do I find this Sticky Keys Configuration window at again so I can unclick it and put it back at the default setting? I've looked everywhere.

So, any help would be very much appreciated! LOL Also, in playing games on here, how is the easiest way to use shift keys and other keyboard keys without getting warnings like this?

Go into your Control Panel, and open the Accessability Options. Once there, you will want to clear the checkbox next to the one that says: Use sticky keys, then click the Ok button.

The future is much like the present, only longer.

Hey ecros! Thanks for your reply!

I went in and the sticky keys was already unchecked. After knowing where to find this now, I looked around and found I had checked something under SETTINGS in the FILTER keys section and that was why my typing was giving me fits. LOL

I do have a question now however.

How do I bypass this sticky key warning and having to go into the control panel whenever I want to play a game that uses keys like this pinball game I have? I just experimented and I got another pop up from sticky himself. I had not played the pinball games on Window's XP yet and so I am in unchartered territory here even though I've been using XP since last November.

Once again, Thanks ecross for your help!

    Uninstall the Acccesability Option.

Control Panel > Add / Remove > System tab (I think from memory).

Uncheck the Accessability option and click apply.

    Hi Nix!!

Thanks for your reply! I went in to control panel and let me see if I understood your post correctly. It's okay to delete accessability options???? You also said to go to add/remove and I take it that you meant the add/remove function in control panel and then you mentioned System Tab. That's where I got lost. I went to add/remove and looked for the accessability options but of course it's not there. So, I haven't done anything, mainly because I'm not really clear on your post. Sorry to be such an airhead here....LOL. But I just want to be sure before I delete something like that from the control panel.

    I do appreciate your reply!!!

    Thanks!!

The accessability options are there for people with disabilities (or whatever the politically correct term is). That's why the icon is a picture of a wheel chair - the same as disabled parking spots (or mobility impaired).

Anyway if you don't need to use them you can remove them - at least you in Win95, 98, Me and NT.

Sorry, to be honest I haven't used XP and was basing my replies on Win95, 98, Me, NT.

Where the Add / Remove has a Install/Uninstall tab followed by a Windows xx Setup tab where xx represents the system being used.

It could be different in WinXP so you may need to search a bit.

It's a tad complicated in W2000 & XP. Here's a KB article that refers to Win2000, it's more or less the same in XP:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;223182

Basically, look for the line in Sysoc.inf that reads like this:

    AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7

and delete "HIDE" then save the file. You should then find that Accessibility Options are listed in Add/Remove Programs>Windows Components and it can then be removed in the normal way.
