Weird interference

Hi people.

Right i have a Shark Tank V 5.1 speaker system.

Ever since i bought it which was about 5 months ago, very on and off i will hear some form of interference coming from the sub woofer only. the thing is its in a foreign lingo it sounds like a radio station of some sort.

I thought id leave it and monitor it for a while (well 5 months) but its still does it.

I know its nothing to do with my soundcard because i just bought a audigy 2.

I took the lead out the back of the woofer and it went away.

i dont understand how i am receiving this. whats so good about this woofer that it can pick up some other "radio station".

Its quite freaky because i cant control it by volume either.

Has anybody come across this or have i got some kind of special receiver built

Hi many years ago on one of my first home computers I upgraded the desktop speakers to self powered ,one evening I had the computer off and was surprised by whispering voices they were coming from the speaker. Appears that the self power and built in amp was receiving a signal and had just sufficent volume to be heard,asked a more Knoweledgable friend about it and they said it was similiar to the old crystal radio's we had as kids. No idea what station I was getting,I moved there location and it never repeated itself.

Somewhere in your neighborhood there is someone with either a CB radio with a linear amplifier hooked up, a base station, or a faulty ham radio, some kind of high wattage two way radio. A tall broadcast tower may be present, but could be hidden from sight.

Things to try.. If it's a three prong ac plug (U-ground) try lifting the ground. The computer is already grounded and the double ground can sometimes cause RF type problems.

If it's two prong (not chassis isolation grounded) try reversing polarity (switching the plug around 180 degrees)... & try running a wire from some part of the metal chassis of the speaker/amplifier to the screw in the middle of the electrical outlet faceplate to ground it.

If none of these things work also try moving the signal cable into the speaker around and you can even try wrapping it in aluminum foil to shield it. You can take the shielding a step further and run a wire from the foil to the same screw in the AC outlet faceplate.
