    Yeah, I'm sure...

Yeah, I'm sure this guy will be back. Give him the wrong advice, then lock the thread so no one can correct it...that's the way to run things.

    Your welcome

If you've found a way to beat the registration/activation for WinXP, we don't want it published here.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

First off, you should have informed him that he can buy additional licenses, rather than tell him to purchase another copy, as additional licenses are cheaper than another copy. But, he will never know that...because you locked the thread.

Secondly, there was no reason to lock that thread. The guy was simply asking a question from an information standpoint and you should have informed him of the details of Product Activation...but you didn't...and no one else can...because...you unnecessarily locked the thread.

It is obvious that he doesn't know what Product Activation is and that he wasn't trying to "game" it or get around it. He just wanted feedback on the process.

If anyone had posted information about how to "illegally" get around it, then you could have of dealt with that individual post, rather than pre-emptively locking the entire thread.

anarchyreigns, it would be appreciated if you did not come in here in the future & tell any of the mods how to do thier jobs. Steve did what he should have done & that is that, if you do not like they way things are done here at VDR, there are a lot of other help forums out there that you could join. BJ

Seeing that Jupitermedia has lost money three straight years in a row, you'd think you'd all be a little more worried about actually keeping people here.

anarchyreigns, give em hell! (oops did id say that?, is that a no-no? )..."if you do not like they way things are done here at VDR, there are a lot of other help forums out there that you could join. BJ..." Man, that's what most people have, or will eventually do. You guys are WAY too absorbed in your "I'M THE BOSS, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT" attitude. Soon you will be ousted by none other than the owners of this very forum because you wouldn't waver on the very rules they set forth, but alas, they'll say "we're losing members, so let's ease up" You guys are only legends in your own mind, give up the "FIGHT FOR WHAT WE'RE TOLD IS RIGHT"

I really hate to say this, but I tend to agree with anarchyreigns and sofaraway. If they choose to leave this board, then I'll probably be right behind them.

I personally feel that this is the best forum I've every been a part of (and Mods are a needed thing), and I hold membership with several. I chose to make VirtualDr my home, and visit it everyday because I felt at home. As of late I've not felt the Home Sweet Home spirit that drew me here in the first place.

Some of the Mods (not all) are too happy to close threads, and are in my opinion just down right ugly or smart in their replies. It's one thing to do your job, and another to think you're god and are doing us a favor! Some of you aren't doing anyone a favor with yalls "holier than thou" attitude.

SOME of you really need to work on your people skills. I've been in management for over 15 years and I've never had to take on some of the attitudes I see and feel here. I hope for your sake you don't treat you're wife like you do or did some (x)members here. You are forgetting the most important thing here, and that is people. There are better ways of handling issues with members other than telling them to go next door. I also worked in the prison system with both federal and county inmates, they didn't always do what I asked, but I never had to cuss at one to get there attention.

I could go on, but I'm sure they'll fall on deaf ears!

I'm sure this thread will soon be locked also, or mysteriously disappear!

    As per the original post
can it be installed on a second pc or do we have to bow to the might of mr. gates and purchase another copy to install on a 2nd computer
the reference to Mr Gates would imply that the user is aware that he probably needed to purchase a second copy.

Otherwise he would have just something along the lines of "we're trying to install it on a second PC and it won't work - please help".

As for Mod bashing well - I'm sure others will have enough to say on that.

Perhaps the moderators - having been around these forums much longer (as in several years) than any of the people complaining on this forum - know that these types of posts almost always lead to information being posted that is in violation of VDR policies. That said, if you don't agree to the VDR policies, then why did you sign up in the first place?

Although I did not read the post in question, that really has no bearing - but I will ask: did the moderators post a message before locking the thread as to _why_ the thread was being locked, or to offer a tip to the poster as to how he/she could rephrase their question in order to comply with VDR policy?

    [end rant]

Their biggest problem is that they have no clue as to who their customer is.

Newsflash for you all. It is us! Without people willing to volunteer their time, for free, while you attempt to make money off of it btw, you don't have a board. Is that really difficult for you to understand?

So if I complain about the quality of "service", then too bad. If you don't like it, how about you find another job? What kind of a business doesn't listen to its own customers?

Moderators are simply volunteers and this is no more their board than it is mine. Blindly standing behind every moderator action, no matter how ridiculous that action may be, without regard to your customers is a foolish way to run a business!

BTW, I have saved this thread in PDF form and if it does "mysteriously" disappear, it will be included in complaints to Jupitermedia officers regarding conduct on VirtualDr.

The thread could have been locked and with no response and a PM sent for all intensive purposes.

We would have no way of knowing.

anarchyreigns, I normally handle these types of things thru pm's but since you decided to make this whole thing public, this is where it will be handeled. You & I have gone around & around a few times regarding your attitude here on the forums being some of the replies you have given to members when they come here seeking help. When you publicly put down one of the mods here for doing his job I did not appreciate it very much. You seem to be an intelligent person & have seen you give some very good help to other members but I have also seen your other side & that is the type of person we dont need at our forums so do what you have to do & complain to jupitermedia if you wish, we run a clean & legal forum here that I, the mods & im sure many of the members are very proud of. Our #1 job as VirtualDr Moderators and Administrators is to uphold the rules as set forth by Jupitermedia in their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). If we don't, we will be replaced.

Jupitermedia's AUP, (which by the way is for all of their numerous forums like VirtualDr), states, in part:
By using these Forums, you agree to the following:
    • You will not behave in an abusive and/or hateful manner, and will not harrass, threaten, nor attack anyone.
    • You will, if asked by a representative of the Forums, cease posting any content ...
We reserve the right to delete any message and/or restrict posting rights in our Forums for any reason whatsoever. Should you continue to post messages that violate the rules of the Forums, your account may be terminated, your access to the Forums may be banned, and your service provider(s) may be contacted about your behavior.
We did not write these rules but, we have agreed to enforce them.

If you have a problem with the AUP, you need to contact Jupitermedia.
