I've used both, I Believe I prefer ZoneAlarm though I haven't used the free version ever since Pro came out. Currently I'm using Kerio because version 4 of Z.A.P. kept crashing Explorer and troubled me in another area also.
Ease of use, I'd give that to ZA, though Kerio isn't too bad either. Takes a little getting used to after coming off ZoneAlarm after about 5 years of using it.

i have always used za with good results until lately true vector keeps having errors went to old version and downloaded early version of za and still had trouble with true vector. if you go into my events viewer you can see a long line of errors in true vector every time i reboot i am trying kerio now but it is a little hard to get to know for me.

Hi frebo I would treat this post as a request for more information, as the definitive answer is bound to be clouded by commercial interests, you should look right through this site and run the tests. http://grc.com/su-firewalls.htm Why confine your choices to just two, ZA is popular however that doesn't make it the best, consider Sygate or Black Ice as well as others.

jenae, i ran the shield test on my comp with kerio and it showed everything in stealth mode just like in za so i think i will use kerio now if i can get used to it. dont know why i had so many errors with zone alarm. would it be better to get a router and not run a software firewall, also kerio seems to use less resources than za

I switched from ZA to Kerio ages ago (back when it was Tiny Personal Firewall) and I've never regretted it. Kerio gives you the sort of flexibility for free that ZA makes you pay for.
