    XP File Search

    Hi,

Has anybody else noticed that the File Search facility in XP isn't very good and struggles to return the correct results.

Does anybody know of a way to get a better search facility in XP?

2000 worked perfectly but that little dog is a let down!

    Thanks,

    Chris.

    Great question!
I do not like to search for stuff on XP as the search is so SLOWWW. I compare to 98 and ME searches.
This does not seem to be affected by have various admin services turned on or off, such as the indexing service and file linking.
A clean install and search is not much better, so MS Office or other programs should not be to blame.
Let's hope someone can speed up the search. Lately, I have been more organized and am hoping to go back to being sloppy!

Try Agent Ransack, I don't like the Search feature in XP either.

I personally use File Finder by Ontrack/VCom

I've stopped using Search since I found this utility called "AvaFind". I've only had it a short while, but I like it so far.

I just downloaded Agent Ransack and I like it. I'll try both for a while and see which one I end up with. Have you tried the "pay version", FileLocator Pro?

No I've not. Here's the comparison between the two. If one needs the added features, then it's well worth the $12.99 price that they are asking.

I downloaded the trial version of FileLocator Pro, also. So, I now have 3 new search programs to try. How did you find the price? The "Buy Now" link isn't working for me. The page I get says:

"Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.573; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.573"

I hope I'm not going to have to download .NET Framework 1.1 sooner rather than later.

Buy Now! is correct, I didn't get any message as you did.

Hmmmm.... once I completely disabled indexing service on all my drives, and got rid of the annoying little dog that wants to find m stuff, and turned on advanced search, things seemed to go quite a bit faster.
