    Question DAO.msi errors

I have ResumeMaker version 9 personal edition. I just started receiving a message about Windows Installer preparing to install DAO.

...when I start RM it comes up an error like "Error: 1706. No valid source could be found for product DAO. The windows installer cannot continue" and/or complaining that the file DAO.MSI could not be found.

The info I found online was that this is due to a corrupted installation of Office-2000, even if Office-2000 seems to work OK for you. DAO components are installed also by Office although they are not used unless you access a database from Word / Excel, what is possible but not very usual.

Some ways to fix the problem:
First try selecting "Help - Detect & repair" menu option in any Office-2000 application (let's say Word or Excel) so that Office installer can try to fix the problem.
If this fails, the other option is to use the Windows Installer cleanup utility (msiccu.exe) than you can download from Microsoft (<http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q238/4/13.asp>)
If this also fails the last chance would be obviously to completely uninstall Office-2000 and install it again. But I would try first the other two options.

Fact be that I don't have Office 2OOO installed, though I did put in the disc about 2 weeks ago to gather some info on it, but I never installed it.

I followed the directions on the info I found, but that didn't help me. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled RM9, that didn't help. Tried installed O2K but got some error about a CAB file missing. (I really don't want Office on this system.

    I'm running XP Pro SP1

Hi fuelm@n have you tried putting office back in and activating setup and select the option to remove. It might just remove the corruption. Office goes through a little preparing to install op after you access it, maybe this is where the problem lies forcing an uninstall might remove the corruption. I would uninstall RM first then after removing office reinstall RM, best of luck. I should add that this is just a thought , can't hurt though.

I'm unable to install O2k or OXP, I get the error that it can't find Office1.cab though it's on the disc. Still getting the DAO.msi message, I just may have to live with it.

No wonder the clean up utility didn't work, it's not supported under XP.

The Msicu.exe and Msicuu.exe utilities are not supported on systems where Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 or later is installed, including Microsoft Windows XP. Follow these steps to verify your version of the Windows Installer:

    Thanks jenae for the help.

What I finally had to do to fix it was to install Windows Support Tools from the Windows XP disc and run Msizap.exe (Windows Installer Zapper). WST also has it's own version of Msiccu.exe (Windows Installer Cleaner Utility) for XP, though that didn't help.
