Where did they get the cash?

For those of you who will admit to using Napster I'm sure you will agree that the amount of advertising associated within the software was minimalist at worst. Just where did they get the millions to pay legal fees and the millions upon millions more to pay the Recording Industry? Sure there were the occassional garage band who advertised in a special section but its not like they could have made a fortune billing for space from desparate unknowns.

When you refer to press reports with talks of Millions of dollars being invested in the shares its little wonder they have money to pay the lawyers.
Judge takes Napster off life support
The $72.5 million in funding provided by Bertelsmann to Napster was advanced, in each case, in a lump sum and without any procedures put in place to ensure that it would not be used to run Napster's illegal copyright infringement business," the industry whinged in a recent court filing, as quoted by the Associated Press.

Bertelsmann intended to buy the Napster carcass for an additional $8 million, after pouring $85 million into the doomed company in hopes of salvaging it after a withering legal assault from an outraged music cabal which spent uncounted millions destroying the first major challenger to its ironclad distribution monopoly.
