WDM Sound driver problems.
Now this thing is really begining to bug me.
Why dont wdm sound drivers work all the time ?
i mean whenever i install them they seem to install ok with no error's in device manager but no sound.
when i go into the multimedia devices and look at the audio properties i get.
no playback devices - greyed out
no recording devices - greyed out
i have read the microsoft knowledgebase artical's on this to check for conflicts the only conflict on this 1 pc is that it shares the same irq (10) as the modem take the modem out the same.
it not just on this pc either it has happened on brand new pc's out of the box.
example most gigabyte boards have onboard ac97 sound only a few of these work.
this happens on both 98se and me.
the only way i have ever got round this is to install vxd (win95) drivers.
any suggestions thanx mike

IS the on-board audio correctly enabled in the BIOS?
All AC97 audio is not the same - what chipset are they? Are you using the right WDM driver set?
Frankly I only ever use WDM drivers in Win2k. I always use VxDs in 9x.

sorry for not replyin sooner mate..
yeah it seems to be enabled in the bios properly.
I only used vxd drivers with 9x some newer hardware require win98se as a minimum because they only have wdm drivers.
only ever seem to have a problem with the sound drivers.
thanx mike
