    Time

The time will not stay set on our computer. We replaced the battery awhile back, but it still loses time. Can someone help? We run Win98. Thanks

How much time loss are we talking about here? Could be the battery you replaced wasn't fully charged/too old...but even a fresh battery won't keep your real-time clock up to date completely (its possible to lose around a minute a day). Another reason could be that there is some program(s) running on the system that are stealing CPU cycles that in turn affects the (software) clock. Power fluctuations can do the same.

You can have your PC's time automatically brought up to speed every time you are on the net with this free utility.

But if you are losing 3, 4, 5 minutes a day, you better check the battery again and hook your system up to a UPS to help condition the power out a bit. Check for running background programs too.

    Here's a few more.

Are you running any product from Norton? Can't remember where just now,but there was a time problem that was caused by one of their programs i read about and they had a patch that "supposedly" fixed it...

Thanks for the replies. It is a lot more that 5 minutes per day. It is now 5:53 PM on the 15th and the computer says 10:35 PM from the night before! We do run the Norton Personal Firewall. Maybe the battery is very low. Will check out the links and other info.
