W2K and XP network
I upgraded one of the 2 w2k machines on my network to XP. What I had and am trying to do now is use ICS without DHCP (I use static IP's). XP has the DSL internal modem with crossover cable to the w2k.
Both machines can ping each other. The w2k machine can only see itself in Network Places. The XP machine can't see itself or the w2k. If I do a "search for computers" on the w2k machine it can find itself and the XP. Doing the same thing in XP won't find either machine.
However, typing "\\w2kname" into explorer on the XP machine takes me right to the w2k shares. Likewise, typing "\\xpname" into explorer on the w2k machine also gets me right into the XP shares. Neither machine asks for a password when accessing it's shares.
The internet connection is good on both.
Workgroup name is the same on both. Passwords used on both, and identical user/password accounts on both. XP firewall is disabled.
So the question is, why can't they see each other in Network Places?

I finally got this to work by logging on as the same user on both machines. That got them to seeing each other. Now I can log on as different users and still see both comps from both machines.
