wow, its great to see people still using M$ very first operating system they took one way or another. anyway, me friend has an OLD laptop with a whopping 10 mhz 8088 processor. well, is there a free/easy install to put MSDOS on it? such as downloads you can put on a floppy and then copy to the laptop?

I would say the best way I could think of to do that would be make a Windows startup disk from Windows 95 or 98 and copy all of it's contents to the comptuer's hard drive. If you don't have 95 or 98 go to Bootdisk.com and get one from there. This should allow your computer to boot to MSDOS.

Whilst DOS7 from Win9x would allow a boot-up, it wouldn't be very suitable long term on an 8088. DOS7 is very large, and since an 8088 can't load DOS high, a lot of memory would be sucked up.

For this type of machine, you could try to find a copy of DOS 3.2 or 3.3 that someone is no longer using, or maybe try FreeDOS:

although this may also have unnecessary advanced features.

There are several freeware DOS OS`s available if you do a search and you might also look up some of the DOS sites for applications available.

Quite agree Vernon Frazee but why pay for it when you can get a complimentry version to MS-DOS for no cost and quite legally.

Dont know if its available but have you considered an early version of Linux for such an old sweety ?

Why? Simply because it's the "real thing".

Hmm maybe, but did you know that Coca Cola has 100 times more calories than the Diet equivalent.
