Thumbs up Re CA EZ-AV ver 6.1.1.2

Renewal time was at hand so I thought I'd give it one more go. Ver 6.0 was a BSOD heartbreaker but the updated ver is well behaved.

FWIW, 98se, ZA ver 2.6, cable connection & all are playing nicely together. Back to the future, as the 'new' interface is just like the old 5.x ver.

YMMV but it's working for me. Happyhappyjoyjoy!

Do you need to uninstall the old version before installation or can you install over the top ?

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

I installed the new one over the top of 5.4... Just have to be sure to turn off the monitoring first. No problems on my Win98SE either... Also have ZA ver.2.6 and no problems at all after i gave it permissions for auto dn/load of course...

GW, Their d/l page says to install over the top but I chose instead to unload the old, manually scrub the registry of any remaining traces of CA stuff, then d/l & install the new. Not easy to find the prog d/l link but it is there. I prefer to manually update, don't use Auto D/L for the updates & so can't speak to that function.

If anybody still cares or is still wondering, all is still golden running ver 6.1.1.2 - as reliable as the old 5.x ver. Well, it is for me anyway.

    Thanks jstnomega and ridgerunr

That information is appreciated. I'm still running version 5.4 and have been looking for verification that EZ-AV 6.1 is working well, especaially with WIN 98SE. Have just about gathered enough courage to take the plunge.

    Smile 5.4?

HMMM! There is someone else besides me who is still using WIN98SE and etrust version 5.4. Glad to know that, LarryS3!

The "Unspecified Error" message is back when I try to Autodownload updates for version 5.4;got them (2402 and also 2403) manually without a problem though. Wish etrust would get their server problem squared away cause I like the Autodownload feature.

I'm like Larry....need to "take the plunge" but I'm not sure I'm 100 percent ready yet.

Win98SE here. Upgraded to new version just before mine was to expire on Feb.11th. Use ZA 2.6. On reading this thread,it reminded me i had an email from eTrust for new update this morn'. Clicked auto dn/load and it took about 20 secs to get definition 4459. No problems at all here...

    Smile 6.1.2? 6.1.3? Maybe 6.1.4?

HMMMM! Ridge has got 6.1.2 as do other readers of this forum. Nancee and Allyn and others have 6.1.3.

I'm still using 5.4 and waiting to see if they come out with a version 6.1.4.

Ridge, I am glad to to know that ZA 2.6 seems compatible with the new 6.1.X versions cause I hope to keep my ZA when I finally do upgrade. But I may as well wait as long as etrust is providing updates for the 5.4...let you brave folks thoroughly test the 6.1.X versions.

Version 6.1.3.1. No problems. AutoDownload works fine. Using ZA 2.6 and W98SE.

My error, but just cuz I'm dumb. I *DO* use the Auto Update thingy w/o any prob's, just that I do it MANUALLY as opposed to automatically or at some pre-scheduled/pre-set times.

I hope that's clear, maybe even helpful to someone.

Yeah. That's the ticket! I aint dumb! It's just a semantics thing.

    Sure.

Le Boule, Don't worry about 'losing' ZA ver 2.6 during an upgrade, cuz the older ver's can still be had here http://www.oldversion.com/

This is probably a dumb, dumb question but here goes.....

What is the great advantage of upgrading a version of AV? Does it give you better protection?

Am still running EZAV 6.0.123. Didn't realize there was an upgrade - never got any notification.
