All usbs and ps2s lights staying on after shutdown!
Hi all,
Ive posted a thread before about my mouse light staying on and now ive found that all usb and ps2 ported peripherials are staying on after shutdown?
i have an adsl external modem, ms natural mutilmedia keyboard, intelli mouse 3.0, Joypad all which power lights stay on and seem active after shutdown!!!???
Where can they be getting power from? and will this do any damage to my pc?
Spec is in sig!
Thanks in advance

That is the normal behaviour of an ATX compliant power supply and motherboard. Keeping those peripherals on isn't a problem; it's a normal state of any modern computer. Peripherals get a separate +5 volts power line from the power supply, which is normally on even when the system is shut down; this allows the computer to be powered on (to wake up) on certain events defined in BIOS: keyboard key press, mouse movement, and so on. If you really want to shut down everything, you might want to check the BIOS settings, disable IRQ monitoring and eventually ACPI, but it could affect power management in Windows if you're also using Stand By or Hibernate. Check the motherboard's manual and manufacturer's website's FAQs for details.

I've even heard of a USB emergency UPS. In the event of power failure it's supposed to provide power for a short time while it shuts everything down and turns the computer off.

If you want everything to shut down, either turn off the switch on the back of the power supply, or flick the switch on your power strip
