I have never messed with OS X and Linux. I have messed with W2K Server and Linux Red Hat as clients on my network. With my limited knowledge, I would suggest DHCP all the way. The two issues that have made me want to take to my Linux boxes with an axe is, Samba/Win Server and those encrypted passwords and Static IP’s and its very effective chains system! I set the Linux boxes up in the networking section for DHCP. Rebooted the machine and had connectivity straight away everytime, (first time for everything with Linux!). Very easy and straight forward.

The easiest way to share Internet is to use a router like the Linksys BEFSR41 - it will act as a DHCP server and you just need to set the Mac and the Linux box to obtain IPs automatically through DHCP.

Although I'm sure there is an Internet connection sharing feature in MacOS that could help. Certainly Linux can do it but that's a big topic Not too hard but its worthy of its own thread.

I believe OS X can underatand NFS so you could use that for filesharing.

If you want to integrate a Windows machine as well I'm sure you can find an NFS client for Windows.

Maybe even Samba could be used here.
