    CD Autoplay

Just recently when I insert an audio CD into the CDROM drive, the box pops up asking what action I want to take. Play in WMP is already highlighted and the always use this selection box is checked. It should automatically begin playing in WMP, but it doesn't. It presents the choices to me each time. It doesn't appear to be able to remember to autoplay the CD. Anyone have any idea how to make the autoplay work correctly and remember my choice?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi rwinegar,

While I don't have an immediate solution to offer you, there are a number of items in the Registry that you may want to examine. Just search on the term autoplay and have a look to see if there is something that appears to need to be changed from a 0 to a 1 in one of the found search strings...

Limerick, that is one half of a good idea. However, I am not going to go switching registry values unless I know what I am doing.

Does anyone know exactly what registry keys to modify?

In TweakUI for XP there are some Autoplay settings, under MyComputer>Autoplay. Have a look in Handlers, click on the WMP icon and then click on the Edit button and make sure the appropriate box(es) is checked.

Open "My Computer" and right-click the drive you want to use (Drive: D) select "Properties" and choose "Auto-Play". You should see the familiar screen with choices. The difference is that you can choose different options for each type of content associated with that drive.

    Sorry, try this:

Fire up regedit and go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\

Double click on AutoRun in the right pane and set the value to 1.

What works is to set it back to default. Exit drive. Go back and then set your personal settings. Sounds dumb but it works.

Thanks DuaneB. I printed off your advice if I ever need it in the future
