    Uninstall WMP 9

    Hi All,

Recently installed WMP 9 beta on my 2000 machine and later realized what a mistake that was. Did an uninstall through Control panel, but did it really do a complete uninstall?? I would like to know if there are registry keys that need to be deleted or hidden files to be discarded (not a big fan of M$'s DRM).

According to this article from zdnet you're lucky you installed it in win2k

    http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-957704.html

Users running Windows 98 SE or Windows 2000 can easily uninstall the media player using the operating systems' "Add or Remove Programs" feature, a typical means of getting rid of unwanted software. This option is not available on Windows Me or XP because of the media player's deep integration into the operating systems, Caulton said. Windows 2000 doesn't have the issues with deep media integration into the shell, the way Windows Millennium Edition and Windows XP have," Caulton said.

So, I guess there shouldn't be any (many?) leftovers on your harddrive.

You were luckier than I was. When I uninstalled 9 beta from my 2000 partition, it took my previous version 7.1 with it. I was able to download and reinstall 7.1, but I shouldn't have had to go through that trouble. You might want to search through Windows Explorer and see if the setup files are still on your drive and delete them too.

    Hi All,

After doing what I thought was a complete uninstall of WMP 9, I found two more instances of it on my machine so I did a full format of my HD and reinstalled my OS and software. Now I'm rid of WMP 9 - AMEN........

Thanks for nothing M$ with your DRM (beginning to understand why so many like Linux like they do)
