Im lost on this one
I have been servicing this client for several years. He got his computer initially from a local shop. Generic system
Ever since he got it he has been complaining about random lockups. Thats before I started working with him. Several years ago
Forget the old system, this is what it is now, not what it was before:
I replaced the moterboard with a ASUS CLUS2C motherboard
replaced the memory and the CPU and the fan with the new motherboard
Replaced the power supply
replaced the hard drive
replaced the zip drive
Client always had a TBU but we replaced it with an 8.4 gig TBU
It still locked up at random
The old mbd cpu and memory works fine in another case. Remember, I replaced the power supply 350 watt The other case has a 300
Ohh and I replaced the video card too
I have replaced everything but the cdrom drive, the floppy and the case. I have formatted this system so many times that I can do it in my sleep. This is a business system. We are not talking user error here. And all the data has to be restored intact
It locks up.
I built him a new system just like his home one and it works fine
Anybody got a clue? why the system is locking up afer replacing everything? My instinct is telling me that it is the case somehow
In the beginning there was the command line

Does the comp lock up while on your bench or just at his office?
What about the current from the wall socket? If he isn't using an UPS then "dirty" line may cause problems. On my home system ,if a breaker trips ANYWHERE in the house the comp locks,I really need an UPS

Well one has to use it to test it you know
The client uses Word and File Maker Pro 5 pretty much exclusively.
I use the same software.
Its not Windows or a bad software load because I have reloaded it many times.
If I had a buck for every driver or piece of software that I have installed I would be driving a Mercedes Benz
My instinct says its the case somehow. But I could not tell you why. Its a full tower case
New system works fine with the identical software load. Same Zip drive TBU and same wattage power supply
Remember we replaced everything and the problem goes back to day one
I think its the case somehow. Thats what my instinct says
In the beginning there was the command line

You might want to try and remove the Zip drive and see if that corrects the problem especially if it is internal. My Zip gave me nothing but hell when I went to 98SE from FE.

Wasn't sure if you were working on it, "on site", or not as you said it was a business machine.
