CD-RW - Read Only?
I have a Plextor CD-RW PX-W1610A, using WIN 2000 and NERO software. I burned files to the CD-RW and it worked fine. (The files I copied were from a folder on my zip drive that I had moved to my desktop.) I had been able to make changes to the files on the zip. However, now the files are on a CD when I try to make changes and save these files, I get a "read only" message. Is it how I copied the files, or something else?
I am able to make changes and save to my desktop, but I know this is supposed to be a much easier process, right?

I did some research and found out--it's normal for burned files to be "read only" and you have to rename them or save them to another drive to be able to manipulate them.

Its not really normal, but it depends on what type of files you burned and how you burned them.
Are needing to know how to Manipulate the files or what? I'm missing your question here....
Just so you know, I have been able to get some (and I do mean Some) files to work. But most often, they dont' want to work.

On CD's, you cannot change files, replace them etc.... You can burn them to the CD, from there they are only Read Only files which means that you can Only Read them from the CD, Not change them.
It isn't really anything you did or didn't do. You get that message due to only being able to Read from a CDR.
CD's aren't quite as good when it comes to that as a Floppy disk. You need to make sure you have the files the way you want them before you burn them to disk. Thats why if you have files that you Update frequently, it is better to keep them on Floppy or Zip disk.
Hope this makes sense.

Hi. I answered your other post now. Just a pointer. In the future, hit the Reply button instead of Start new thread. It helps keeps down the confusion.
Anyways, I answered you original question HERE
To manipulate them, you will need to Copy and Paste the file to your Hard drive. Then do what you want with them.
But, remember that you cannot just add to the file on the CDRW. You will have to completely replace it.
