WMP9: MPG Files Only load partially...
This is a problem I'm having with Windows Media Player 9 (imagine that): I load a massive 100MB+ .MPG file that I got from a friend, and the file loads up and says its 1 minute long instead of the 30 minutes expect. I figure, hey, it's gotta play it through, but after a minute, the file stops playing. If I try to seek to different parts in the file, I get more of the video, but it won't play back completely. Am I missing a codec? I know other people have had this problem but I haven't found a solution posted yet. Please, if anyone has a fix, let me know. Thanks alot.

Hi and welcome to Virtualdr..
Odds are that it's more likely a problem with the mpg itself rather than the player. That symptom is more in line with what you would get with a corrupted mpg or one that wasn't joined properly from split files. Although having said that some players are more sensitive to damaged files than others and I know from experience that mpgs that won't play in WMP7 will play in 6 or even other mpeg players like "the playa". And considering the problems others are having with WMP9 it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were very picky about playing imperfect files.
Here's a page with a link to a freeware program called "mpeg corrector" that fixes broken mpgs
http://www.vcdhelp.com/tools.htm#conv
and lots of other media things as well.
I would make a copy of the movie to experiment with so if something goes terribly wrong you won't have lost it.
