Smile Looking For A Free E-Mail Trace Remover

    Hello Everyone!
I am wondering if anyone has had good results with any free programs out there that will remove any trace of e-mails after I have already deleted them? I've heard about something that will make several swipes over the area that they were and will get rid any remnants or traces of them. I don't save my sent e-mails, I'm only wanting to get rid of e-mails after I've deleted them upon reading them. Is there such a program? I hope I'm explaining this okay. LOL

Thanks for your help and any advice you may have!

That kind of depends on what program you are using to check your email... most of them store your mail in a big file (for example, Outlook Express puts them into files with .dbx extensions) but if you wipe that out with some utility, you will lose all your mail in that folder. (A folder in Outlook Express corresponds to a .dbx file)

There might be something on www.download.com though

Thanks for your speedy reply. I use Hotmail as my mail program but I have it configured to come through my Outlook Express 6.0
    Will this make a difference?

For your e-mail, you may have to try the following procedure:

Permanently delete the e-mails you want to get rid of, then compact the e-mail database which will free up the now unused space. Then, you can use a free space wiper program that repeatedly overwrites all of the free space on yout HD, still leaving it free but now with random data instead of e-mail or other traces.
