Personally I like CDex. The latest version is 1.40

As far as the "same quality", an MP3 throws information away for the sake of a smaller file size. If you plan on editing, like I gather from your other thread, you'll lose even more with every generation. Best to stick with .wav files all the way through, 44100khz at 16bit. If you have to go MP3, go with the largest bitrate. (CDex's is 320kbs).

Everyone interested is going to have an opinion on this. And i don't want to stomp on anyones favorite. Personally,i paid the bucks and use Roxio's Easy CD Creator Platinum with the free updates. I've heard of problems from XP users, but i don't use XP so can't say for sure.

The best program ECDC offers to do what you want is "Soundstream". You can rip from CD as Wav or mp3. You can burn from mp3 to Wav to play on any machine as a normal CD would. Bitrate will be about 96 to 128.

I've tried Nero and had problems(older vers. tho'),so went back to ECDC and works well for me...
    Stupid question? No such thing!

ECDC Platinum updated for XP works great on my XP Home machine.
