    xp sp1 and msi ti4200 vtd 8x 128

has anyone had problems using an MSI Ti4200 Vtd 8x 128mb card after updating to SP1 with XP Pro?? Somehow after updating to SP1, my Ti4200 refuses to work even while using the drivers that came with the cd. It only works if I don't update.

Also has anyone had problems installing Powerdvd or Windvd in XP?? I have the latest Powerdvd XP 4 version and it keeps telling me it's missing some sort of support file even though my copy is a full oem version. Same thing goes with installing Windvd and Diskeeper 7, PerfectDisk goes through the complete install without any problems.

The latest nvidia drivers won't work with the MSI 4200 VTd 128mb agp card...the latest is version 3100...

im not sure what site you get your nvidia drivers from, but the latest qualified driver is 40.72, there are also a couple of other qualified drivers available. i had no trouble installing or running anything, ive switched drivers from the native m$ nvidia driver with xp to 30.82, 40.51,40.72 ran a creative beta dx9 42.8 and a new dx 9 42.1 i am currently running the 30.82 although the only problems i had with the rest were game graphics related, i have never had problems installing or running anything. www.guru3d is a pretty good site for drivers and other infor if you care to check it out.

I'm using MSI's current and latest drivers for the Ti4200 VTD8x 128mb agp card. I tried using the 40.72, but all that shows up on the screen after reboot are small dots in the upper left hand corner. On MSI's site, the 3100 nvidia drivers are the latest ones for that card.

Also do you know why Powerdvd would claim that the support files are missing and disables the install?? I've tried different Powerdvd installs...the trial version and the oem version that comes on cd and they all claim that a certain support file is missing and rolls back the install. Same thing goes with Windvd. Does this have something to do with being logged in as administrator because I have it defaulted to administrator?

im not sure, i am the only account on my machine, with admin rights, i stuck in the power dvd that came with my 4600 and it went right in. have you disabled your antivirus prior to install of any drivers and or programs, have you tried the install of programs in safe mode? did you uninstall your msi driver prior to trying the 40.72? i put a creative made 42.8 for dx9 in mine, it ran fine, except on battlefield, the gun and hand looked like a burnt gingerbread cookie, the rest of the graphics were fine, it even changed the header on my vid card from nvidia to creative. maybe try sfc /scannow in the run box, check all the native files.

I happened to figure out why my programs weren't installing even though I'm logged in as the sole administrator. There's a service app called Windows Installer which is disabled by default and set to manual. After enabling this and setting it to Automatic, programs finally install! As for the driver, I'm still having problems getting the latest drivers to work for that card. MSI's site seems to only have the 3100 drivers as the latest versions.

NVidia posts their reference drivers on their own site. It's possible your card may lose some functionality by using the Nvidia drivers, but it's more likely you'll lose some of the branding by MSI in your system tray, control panel, etc.
NVidia also uses "Unified Driver Architechture" which is a fancy way of saying a whole bunch of drivers in a single file. So your download is probably waiting for you at http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_41.09

thanx for the advice, ProfessorU. Turns out that the Ti4200 8x agp card uses those drivers instead of the 40.72 which are detonator and are set to use a different architecture.

I had a feeling it was also the card being bad, so I returned it, popped it in and installed the 41.09 drivers and no problems! I was able to adjust the refresh rate and desktop resolution.
